I counted down the hours. It was almost time to meet Jen at her art studio. Ever have a day when you just can't wait to see someone? That was me today. It was hard to stay present at work when I knew I was going to pick up the first piece of art I had ever commissioned.
Visiting Jen in her studio is like a kid's visit to Willy Wonka's Candy Factory. Every piece she's created resonates with me. I joke with her that I want to promote her work, but selfishly, I wish I could bring home all of the pieces in her gallery.
It is virtually impossible for me to talk about Jen without getting misty-eyed. Coupled with her creative gift, Jen has taken such an authentik journey with her career as an artist. She's gone from talking about living her dreams to making it her reality. She embodies everything I hope to share through my blog and TV Talk Show - when you take a leap of faith and follow an authentik path - you can live your dreams.
Seven years ago, Jen decided to become an artist. She made some significant changes in her life both personally and professionally. Since that time, she's never looked back. There are no regrets, just creative energy that surrounds everything she does. Jen leverages her background in fashion retail management to help market her business. She has designed an outstanding website to feature her work. She blogs and tweets @mindseyestudio to share information about exhibits, new pieces and her community engagements. She also is co-anchors a radio program called Culture Soup with RJ. It airs Thursday evenings at 8:00 p.m. on CKWR 98.5.
Back in her studio, Houston, her seven year old puppy sits in my lap. I'm fully aware of this sacred place where I'm privileged enough to sit and quietly observe the artist at work. My eyes take in work in progress and slowly land on the piece she's created for me. She looks to me for feedback. I'm so overwhelmed that the words seem faint when they finally surface. "I love it." It is all I can do to hold back the tears of admiration and awe I feel about the piece I'll soon bring home as a gift to my husband.
In her studio, two chairs face each other for two souls to get lost in the deepest and bravest of conversations. Here I am with a gifted and articulate artist who inspires me by simply being herself. I am so looking forward to featuring Jen on Authentik You. For a sneak preview of a few of the questions we'll cover on the show, please check out our Q&A on the Authentik You website.
Namaste, Jen. I bow to you for all that you are and everything you represent. May your journey continue to inspire all that enter the wonderful world you've created.
